Revealing Horizons: Unseen Connections

About

Fama Diouf

Fama Sioux, born Fama Diouf, is a Senegalese-Ivorian photographer known for her impactful black-and-white imagery. Raised in a multicultural environment across several countries, she discovered her passion for photography during a 2010 humanitarian mission in Haiti. Her work challenges stereotypes and reimagines historical figures within an African context, emphasizing cultural equality. Influenced by Sebastião Salgado, Fama continues to explore themes of identity and heritage, with projects like "African World Vision" defining her unique artistic voice.

What's happening

On the occasion of Brighton most awaited Photo Fringe Biennale 2024, we are opening the autumn season with Fama Diouf, an artist some of you may have seen in the studio last spring and for the first time in Solo Exhibition.

"In 'Revealing Horizons: Unseen Connections', I explore the visible and hidden through black-and-white and infrared photography. By reimagining historical figures within an African context, my work challenges stereotypes and unveils new perspectives on identity. The stark contrasts in my black-and-white images reveal core truths, while the surreal infrared captures unseen layers of reality. In this exciting partnership with Jean Wachter and Mid Street Lab, this exhibition celebrates the real or imagined connections that unite us and fosters ross-cultural understanding and social healing, I am hopeful."
